This didactic song not only emphasises the grammatically correct use of indirect speech. It should also help pupils think about the meaning of indirect speech in everyday language use. The song clarifies what the quoted speakers may have said literally in their respective situations and why the narrator in the song prefers to use indirect speech rather than repeating what was said word for word.
The text should also create many opportunities for class discussions (preferably using indirect speech) to address various life situations that come from the students' everyday lives and with which they can identify.
